Well, what do you reckon?
No miracles this month, or in the last 24 hours at least.
It's the last day of June, and I was aiming for 106kg, but weighed 106.3kg this morning. So I was really close but not quite there, but it was actually great having something to aim for...
I'm setting myself a new challenge to go under 106kg by Monday when we are going to NZ - 400gm is 3 days is definitely do-able :)
It's time for a healthier Heth - a weight loss blog. When I get back to 85kg, hubby and I are going to Paris and a few other places I'm dying to get to in Europe. I have an Eiffel Tower backdrop as a reminder of my first major goal. It's a pretty great goal!

It's Gonna Take a Miracle...
...to get to 106kg by Saturday....considering today is Friday and this morning I weighed 106.5kg.
106kg is my goal weight for the end of June. Originally my GWEJ was 108kg but I reached that pretty quickly so decided to push myself a bit harder.
It might take a serious amount of walking, no salt, no carbs, mainly fruit and veggies, and some protein, just for one day! I guess it's possible but will probably take a miracle!

OK! No peanut butter till the end of the month!
I love peanut butter, but peanut butter loves my hips. So I'm severing the friendship till the end of June which is only a few days away...3 days to be exact...maybe I should say no peanut butter till the end of July!
I haven't been going crazy but 4 points for a tablespoon is a lot of pointage...considering how much walking one needs to do to shift 4 points, a tablespoon of peanut butter is barely worth it! Mind you, I've been eating the peanut butter my SIL made when she was here, so no salt or sugar added which might make it a little bit healthier. I'm just kidding myself I think!

9kg in 10 Weeks!
It was my 10th weigh in today and I was hoping to go under 107kg. Well, with a bit of help from Tready, we made it! I weighed in this morning and lost 1.2kg, so I'm doing the happy dance! I'm on target to reach my end of June goal of 106kg by Saturday. Tough but possible.
So I weigh 106.5kg which is a total of 9kg lost since I started, woohoooo!

Will I reach my goal this month?
I reset my goal for the month a few weeks ago. I want to get to 106kg by the end of June...It'll be a stretch but I could get there if I go shopping for more fruit and veggies today!
Weigh-in tomorrow, and then there will be 5 more days till the end of June. So I'd better get my walking shoes on and pay Tready another visit!

Tready and I got reacquainted today!
It's been an awful long time, but finally I went and caught up with Tready tonight. It was a quick visit, but 25 minutes is better than 0 minutes isn't it?
I also had a wee hit of tennis this afternoon. I managed to return a few shots despite running around in jandals (as we say in NZ), or thongs (in Aussie), or flip flops... whatever you call them, they're hopeless to play tennis in ;-P
The New Found Evils of Too Much Water!
Yesterday at Ben's soccer game, I was talking to another soccer Mum, and she was telling me that new studies on water are showing that 8 glasses of water a day is too much for our bodies. They, I don't know who 'they' are, but THEY, are saying we should drink two glasses of water a day as there is enough liquid in the rest of what we consume in a day. The reason is that too much water leads to our organs working too hard...Brent (doctor hubby), was also saying a similar thing, but I don't know his sources either.
I never drink 8 glasses of water, especially in winter, and I know I need to drink more than what I drink...but whaddya reckon? Is water that bad for us?

Aiming for Paris - by July 2013!
Hubby and I have been talking about Paris next year! At first I was merely using it as my weight-loss goal, and was hoping he'd come on board. But it looks like it will really happen and the flights could cost nothing! As long as there are frequent flyer seats available! Not sure about the kids though, they might have to stay with their grandparents in NZ :(
If I lose an average of 3kg per month, that would take me 10 months to lose the 30kg needed to reach my Paris goal of 85kg. I can do it, and maybe lose a few more extra kilos!
Watch out Paris I'm a-comin'!

Slow & Steady Wins The Race
When I was in the weight loss zone last time (in 2008-2009), I was losing quite quickly especially at the beginning. I lost 10kg in the first 7 weeks, boom! Whereas, this time the rate has been a bit slower, but still great. I need to keep reminding myself that it's Ok to be losing more slowly this time, to be patient, and to not compare with the previous journey! I suspect that ProPoints is a better fitting program for me, and more sustainable in the long term.
When my dad died in 2009, I lost my motivation to keep losing and stopped trying with the same enthusiasm. I had gone hard for a year, lost 35kg, and had run out of steam. Before long I found that I was gaining about 8-10kg a year.
But this time is different. I've learned a few lessons from my last journey and it's a good thing to live life to the full, lose weight, and enjoy the journey more. So slow and steady does win the race for me! Well, not too slow because Paris is calling! :)

Ling Fish Cakes - 1 point each and yummy!
I made some yummy fish cakes in the style my mother would make. She would pulverise the fish with the back of the Chinese chop/cleaver, but I did everything in the food processor - heaps faster and easier.
Tonight for dinner, I ate 4 fish cakes, and each one was only 1 point...so 4 fish cakes for 4 points! Yummy and very satisfying!
Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
Method
I fish cake = 1 point

Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
- 750gm ling fillets
- 1 small onion
- 6 eggs
- 1 bunch fresh coriander or garlic chives
Method
- Roughly cut the onion into 8 pieces, and then place into the food processor. Pulse until small pieces.
- Cut ling fillets into chunks and process with the onion until fish is chopped finely but not completely smooth.
- Add to mixture, 6 eggs and coriander/garlic chives, and process together until mixed through. Coriander should be roughly chopped.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Heat frying pan to moderate heat and use spray oil to cook fish cakes (about pikelet sized)
I fish cake = 1 point
Oops, I did it again!
Well, after a great day yesterday (on the scales), I had a whoopsie moment. I was doing quite well until evening, and I ate some freshly made peanut butter and roasted sunflower seeds my SIL made. 8 points just like that! And then we had a visitor who came for dinner and out came the Brie and the pate. I just ate too much and when I tracked it, it came to 61 points! Arggghhhhh!
Oh well, at least we have weeklies for moments such as these!
Better make more soup :)

Week 9 Weigh-In! 1.4kg gone overnight!
I weighed in at home today and I did the happy dance!
Last night before I went to bed I weighed 109.1kg. This morning, after getting up a few times to go to the loo during the night, I jumped on the scales and they read 107.7kg! Wowser, 1.4kg gone overnight!
Since my weigh-in last week, that's a loss of 1kg, and a total of 7.8kg lost since I restarted. Another kilo closer to Paris! Wooohoooo!

Yay! Clothes are fitting me again!
I decided that I wasn't going to buy any new clothes until I lost 10kg. But I'm happy to say that my old clothes are fitting me again and feeling more comfortable than at the start of this journey! I might just find a whole lot of old clothes that I can wear again and not have to buy new ones....haha. Not likely! Can't wait to buy something new in a few kilos time.

Passport Photo - arrggghhhh!
Passport photos are always so dodgey.
I've been holding off from getting my passport photo taken because my face gets very round and puffy when I put on weight. So I have left it till the last moment to get my passport photo taken...and now I'm down to the wire to get it processed in time before my flight to NZ. Such vanity!
I went yesterday to get my photo done properly, and the photographer in the shop told me I had to part my fringe because it was too long and partially covering my eyes! Argghhhh! I hate my fringe parted! I have forehead phobia! So my face my be less round, but I feel blurrrgh and dorky with my forehead showing.
At least it's only 5 years till I can get my photo retaken.

A birthday weekend!
I had a big weekend full of food! We had our step-nephew staying with us and we took him to Yum Cha which I love, and then there was my daughter Sarah's birthday yesterday. Not good the day before I weigh in! So this morning I weighed in and I fortunately stayed the same!
Not the best way of getting to Paris, but not too bad considering what we ate over the weekend.
I WILL BE GOOD THIS WEEK!
Paris is calling...

A photo of what I'm aiming for!
I've just been looking through my old photos of our Asia-Europe-America trip in 1994-95 and reminiscing. DS11 Ben had a look too and said how cool the photos were of all the places we went, and he said, "boy mum you were skinny"! Actually I was about 78kg at the time and had lost about 25-30g before the trip...so that's my motivation...to get back to Europe and be about the same weight. I know I'll enjoy it more if I'm fitter as well.

Some Short Term Goals
I think I need to make a checklist of some short term goals to keep me on the straight and narrow for the next few months.

- Do some ski-training every day for 5-15 minutes
- Go skiing in NZ for one day
- GWEJ - originally 106kg, now amended to 103kg
- Walk 3 times a week for 45-75 minutes

Week 7 Weigh-In
I weighed in this morning at home and woohoo, another 800gm lighter than last week!
I'm happy! If yesterday had been weigh-in day I would have lost 1kg, but it'll just balance out and might make it a bit easier to lose some extra grams next week. ;P I'm enjoying this journey, and loving ProPoints. How good are those weeklies!?
I now weigh 108.7kg and have lost a total of 6.8kg. Paris is another step closer!

Loving Winter Weight-loss
My favourite season for weight-loss is winter...I know that this might be the opposite for many people, as winter tends to be season for weight gain.
But I love winter veggies more than salads - especially roast veggies.
Winter is also great for making soups, going for walks (as Sydney is too hot for me in summer), putting on the slow cooker, and getting onto Tready - my long lost friend.
And then there's skiing in NZ which is coming up in 4 weeks...yikes better get fit!

Healthy Pizzas?
It's my daughter Sarah's birthday coming up soon, and we weren't going to do a party this year, but I thought we could have a pizza party if she wanted. I went to Coles and bought the last 2 pizza cookers they had on the shelf - only $29 each!
I've been to a few parties where they've had the pizza cookers going en masse, and the school I work at also bought some. So not my original idea at all.
So, we had pizza last night for dinner. I tried to buy low point ingredients. Lite pizza bases, light tasty cheese, and lots of veggies and a variety of meats and smoked salmon.
A normal piece of pizza is worth 4-6 points and about 35+ points for a whole pizza! But I worked out if I went moderately on the cheese a whole pizza could come to 12-16 points. The main naughty factor is the cheese as the veggies are all free! My favourite combo last night was smoked salmon, red onion, capers, pesto and feta!

Do you eat when you're bored?
I went to work at Brent's surgery today as I'm filling in for someone who's on holiday. I didn't really have enough time for a proper breakfast, and just ate a banana and a Weight Watchers ginger kiss bar.
Normally I'd be ravenous by 11am, but I was really busy and didn't notice time going by. I didn't feel hungry at all, and went for lunch in Chatswood with our niece Hannah. We felt like Vietnamese spring rolls, and by the time we found a Vietnamese eating place it was probably 1.30pm. It was very healthy and yummy (but not as good as Cabramatta) ;P
If I had been at home, I would have been nibbling all day! I reckon I must eat out of boredom. And probably when I'm tired, stressed, when watching TV and just for something to do. :O
